Brandon Joseph Lazard

About Me

Howdy! My name is Brandon Joseph Lazard and I'm a first-year Ph.D student at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in the Department of Earth, Planetary Sciences. I currently am working under Professor Jonathan Aurnou in the UCLA SPINLab studying fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics applied in geophysical and solar environments.

I previously attended The University of Texas at Austin where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy (2020-2023). While there I worked with Professor Anna Tenerani studying the physical properties of the solar wind using NASA's Parker Solar Probe.

In my free time I enjoy playing with my cat Wilford, playing video games, cooking (for other people), watching movies/tv shows/anime and listening/playing music. My favorite genres include math rock, progrock, instrumental rock, indie pop, and rap and hip-hop. A few of my favorite bands/artists include Covet, Chon, Animals as Leaders, Metallica, Polyphia, Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Mac Demarco, Kendric Lamar, JID, + more! My favorite series and movies include Altered Carbon, Travelers, Bleach, Noragami, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Interstellar, Inception, The Conjuring, The Medium, Sinister, + more!

Research

My research interests include (but not limited to) Fluid dynamics, Magnetohydrodynamics, Solar physics, Plasma Physics, Space Plasma Physics, Solar and Planetary Dynamos, Fusion and Tokamaks, Astrophysical Turbulence and Chaotic Systems.
